| Randy was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and has been married for nineteen
years to Pamela. They have an eleven year old son, Colton.
Randy has immensely enjoyed drag racing from a very early age, first as a spectator and
then as a competitor. He raced every weekend he could at Edmonton International
Speedway with his 68’ Mustang Fastback before the track was closed down.
In 2000-2001, he worked as a crew member on the Trial N Error Nitro Funny Car out of Edmonton. The
car is owned by Rick DuChene and driven by Jason DuChene.. The team took the car to Spokane Washington that year for the
AHRA World Finals and won.
In 2002, Rick DuChene made the decision that he was going to try and field two Nitro Funny Cars. Randy
and Pam met with Rick and Michelle DuChene immediately to see what it would take for Randy to be the pilot of the second car. A
proposal was put on the table and Randy and Pam went to work quickly on family members for support and an agreement was made and
Randy was able to live his life long dream of being a driver of a Nitro Funny Car. Randy cannot thank his wife Pam, brother
Dave, mother Ann and Sister Elaine and brother-in-law, Leon enough for raising the money that allowed him his new seat and for contributing
to his dream as well as Rick and Michelle DuChene for giving him the chance.
The first year of trying to test two cars at once proved to be unfruitful, the car Jason drove exploded during
a spectacular run at Budweiser Park, now Castrol Raceway. The decision was made that Jason would be driving the car Randy was
to pilot since his car had been a total loss and Randy was out a ride..
Throughout the rest of the season Randy talked to Leon about how serious he was about driving a Nitro Funny
Car and they had long talks and the decision was made that Leon was to purchase his own Nitro Funny Car with Randy being the
driver. Randy's long time friend, Neil Fedderly, who was doing the heads on Jason's car at the time, was asked if he would be willing to be the crew
chief of Randy's new ride, which he agreed to. From there ESP Racing was born.
Randy and Crew Chief, Neil Fedderly began building the drive train for the car and
accomplished their goal in 2003. Randy was able to test and tune the car several times before
the home track had closed for the season.
In 2004 Randy accomplished a very large goal in obtaining his NHRA SP Fuel License.
In 2005 the team continued to gain knowledge in respect to making the car run
lower ET’S and higher MPH.
In 2006 Randy ran his fastest run ever, however the timing system at the track froze and there were no
numbers.
Now with the re-introduction of the Nitro Funny Car Class in the I.H.R.A. owner Leon wanted to step up to
the National Event level and he purchased a chassis from John Force Racing in the spring and searched for and found a newer body,
a 2005 Monte Carlo. The team spent the winter getting the car ready for this year's season.
In 2007 Randy had another goal to reach and he did which was obtaining his I.H.R.A. license. Randy entered two I.H.R.A. Events
during the season. The first being the Rocky Mountain Nationals, at Castrol Raceways, in Edmonton, where he qualified #8 and the
other Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports park in Cayuga, Ontario.
Another big goal Randy has set for himself is to some day obtain his N.H.R.A. license and to do the western swing.
